Deepika Padukone and Katrina Kaif Bring Patola Back This Festive Season

Ganesh Chaturthi turned Mumbai’s celebrity circuit into a showcase for Indian craft this week, and patola emerged as the fabric of the moment. Deepika Padukone and Katrina Kaif, who have both kept public appearances to a minimum lately, each chose the Gujarat double-ikat weave for their festive outings, setting a maximalist tone for the season ahead.

Deepika Padukone Goes Ceremonial

Deepika visited Mumbai’s Siddhivinayak temple in a custom salwar-kameez by designer Mayyur Girotra. Her kurta, handwoven in Patan, features floral and rangoli-style patterns along with elephant motifs. The yoke carries antique-finish zardozi, while the borders use Banarasi brocade appliqué. A deep purple salwar and antique gold dupatta added a ceremonial feel, and stylist Priyanka Kapadia finished the look with Umrao Jewels jhumkas.

Katrina attended the Ambani family’s Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations in a green silk anarkali from Jigya.M, a rare public appearance for the actor. A patola dupatta with pearl-encrusted ikat motifs lifted the simple silhouette, and she wore a pearl choker with polki and rubies from Prabhudayal Soni And Sons Jewellers.

Saris and Archival Picks Join the Mix

Patola’s popularity has also been noticed on Madhuri Dixit Nene, Janhvi Kapoor and Sonam Kapoor. Elsewhere, Karisma Kapoor picked an Anavila linen sari block-printed in tangerine, fuchsia and ecru, styled with a Gujarati kedia-inspired pink blouse. Shanaya Kapoor wore a Manish Malhotra sari in seedha pallu style, with oversized paisleys in antique gold marodi embroidery.

Promoting Lust Stories season three, Aditi Rao Hydari revisited Anand Kabra’s 2013 Taramati collection with a cut-out anarkali and tie-and-dye Farshi salwar. Kareena Kapoor Khan, promoting Daayra, wore a Picchika sari of pink silk chiffon hand-painted with yellow marigolds.

With the festive season only beginning, these looks offer ready inspiration for wardrobes, whether you favour a restrained sari or all-out heritage glamour, and they confirm that craft-led dressing is firmly in focus.
