Bezos Predicts Millions Will Live in Space Within Decades

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has made a bold prediction about humanity’s future beyond Earth, stating that millions of people will be living in space within the next two decades—and they’ll be doing so by choice.

Speaking at Italian Tech Week in Turin last week, the billionaire entrepreneur outlined an ambitious vision where space habitation becomes commonplace much sooner than most people expect. Bezos emphasized that technological advancements, particularly in robotics, will make this transformation possible by enabling automated construction in space.

Robots Will Build Our Space Future

According to Bezos, robots will handle the initial construction work in space, eliminating the need for humans to perform dangerous building tasks in harsh conditions. This approach will make space colonization more feasible and cost-effective, paving the way for voluntary migration beyond Earth.

The founder of Blue Origin, established in 2000, believes people won’t need to live in space out of necessity but will actively choose to do so. His aerospace company has already completed over 30 missions, including an all-female crew flight in April.

Space-Based Data Centers on the Horizon

Bezos also predicted that companies will establish data centers in space within the coming decades. The rationale is compelling: space offers continuous solar power without weather interference, making it ideal for energy-intensive computing operations. This development could support the growing demands of artificial intelligence while reducing Earth’s environmental burden.

The entrepreneur previously told Lex Fridman’s podcast that he envisions a trillion humans living throughout the solar system. He’s also expressed confidence that Blue Origin will eventually surpass Amazon, currently valued at over $2 trillion, describing it as potentially “the best business” he’s ever been involved in.
