Leipzig ruin Bayern’s title party in the 95th minute
RB Leipzig netted in the fifth minute of injury time to thwart Bayern Munich from sealing a 34th German league championship after a dramatic 3-3 tie at the Red Bull Arena.
Poulsen’s 94th-Minute Equalizer Forces Dramatic 3-3 Draw at Red Bull Arena
RB Leipzig dramatically denied Bayern Munich an early Bundesliga title celebration with a stoppage-time equalizer in a thrilling 3-3 draw at the Red Bull Arena.
Yussuf Poulsen netted in the 94th minute to cancel out what appeared to be a title-clinching goal from Leroy Sané, keeping the champagne on ice for Vincent Kompany’s Bayern side, who now need just one more point to mathematically secure the title.
Comeback and Collapse in High-Drama Clash
It was a rollercoaster evening in Leipzig. Bayern, who were without suspended star striker Harry Kane, fell two goals behind in the first half. Benjamin Sesko opened the scoring with a sublime strike from distance, and Lukas Klostermann made it 2-0 with a powerful header just before halftime.
But Bayern roared back with two goals in quick succession after the break. Eric Dier pulled one back, and just 46 seconds later, Michael Olise, a winter signing from Crystal Palace, brought the visitors level.
Sané then looked to have sealed a stunning turnaround with a curling strike into the bottom corner in the 84th minute, prompting scenes of premature celebration — even Kane had come down from the stands to join the squad.
Poulsen’s Late Strike Keeps Title Race Technically Alive
However, Leipzig weren’t finished. Deep into injury time, Poulsen latched onto a loose ball and chipped it past Jonas Urbig, denying Bayern all three points in the dying seconds.
Despite the draw, Bayern remain nine points clear of second-placed Bayer Leverkusen, with a superior goal difference of +30. They can still secure the title without playing if Leverkusen fail to beat SC Freiburg on Sunday. Otherwise, the Allianz Arena could witness the decisive moment when Bayern host Borussia Mönchengladbach on May 9.
