Janet Jackson nods to “Control” with hair and outfit in the 37th Rock and Roll Hall of Fame

Jimmy Jam also Terry Lewis, who helped Jackson produce Janet Jackson’s iconic 1986 album Control, were inducte into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on Saturday.

The Grammy winner, 56, brings back one of his signature ’80s performances to friends, songwriter and producer duo Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, at his 37th annual inauguration ceremony into the Rock’ n’ Roll Hall of Fame Saturday. Night in Los supports angels.

He wore all-black pants with a high-necked jacket to announce the award, a clear nod to the cover of his third studio album, Control (1986), which he co-produced with Jam and Lewis. This album marked a major turning point in Jackson’s musical career, helping him develop into genres such as dance-pop, R&B and hip-hop and helping cement his status as a rising star. It also helped set the tone for the next hit album she would produce, Janet Jackson’s Rhythm Nation 1814 (1989). Jem and Lewis wrote other hit songs for Jackson, including “Love Will Never Do (Without You)”, “That’s The Way Love Goes”, and “All About You”. They also produced hits for Boyz II Men, Mariah Carey and Usher.

Control, who turned 35 last year, returned to the top charts last February, topping the Apple Top 40 US Pop Albums chart.

“Never, never in a million years, never thought this would happen. I appreciate and love you. Thank you,” Jackson tweeted at the time.
