“Hold Me Closer” music video director wants to “make Elton and Britney proud” with clip: Watch
It was an “emotional” career moment for the director, Hold Me Closer who grew up with the two pop legends.
Instead of Spears, 40, or John, 75, the video follows a stylish couple dancing – and embracing – through the bustling venues of Mexico City.
In a new tweet, John wrote that the video “beautifully captures the immense sense of intimacy that a world so lacking in today’s chaos and chaos has.”
The dance-driven video for the chart-topper. Which debuted at #1 on the Billboard Hot Dance/Electronic chart – was directed by Tanu Muiño. Best known for directing music videos such as Lil Nas X’s “Montero”, Harry Styles’s “As It Is” ” and Lizzo’s “Rumor”. Directing the video for a dance-pop song was an “emotional” career moment for the Ukrainian director. Who grew up with the two pop legends.
“After seeing [the ‘I am a Slave 4 U’ music video], I decided I wanted to be a video director,” he said in a publication.
Muiño said he knew fans of both artists had a lot of “emotional expectations. So he wanted to do something “different and unexpected.” He says. “To capture that magic, we photographed all of my favourite architectural spots in Mexico City. And brought in choreographer Jacob Jonas. Who does the best contemporary choreography of the day.”
And while Spears inspired the director’s career choices. John’s legendary status proved to be his greatest asset as he scouted talent for the video.
“It’s easy to find the best dancers, the best crew and access to some of the most private places in the world. Because everyone wants to work with Elton John and be part of his legacy,” said Moinho.
