Tapestry Leads Fashion Industry Sustainability Push
Tapestry, the parent company of luxury brands Coach and Kate Spade, has secured its position as the fashion industry’s environmental champion. The company made its second consecutive appearance on Newsweek’s America’s Greenest Companies 2026 ranking while achieving significant environmental improvements year-over-year.
Impressive Environmental Gains
According to data from Plant-A, Tapestry improved its greenhouse gas emissions by over 25 percent, reduced water usage by 16 percent, and decreased waste generation by nearly 10 percent. The company outperformed industry averages across all metrics: 47 percent better for GHG emissions, 62 percent for water usage, and 36 percent for waste generation. These achievements reflect Tapestry’s comprehensive “Fabric of Change” strategy, which focuses on workforce diversity, biodiversity solutions, and innovative waste-reduction products.
Consumer Demand Drives Change
The timing of Tapestry’s recognition is particularly significant as the fashion industry faces mounting pressure to become sustainable. While textile and apparel representation on the greenest companies list dropped by 43 percent this year, consumer interest in sustainable fashion continues rising. According to PwC’s 2024 Voice of the Consumer Survey, 80 percent of consumers are willing to spend more on sustainably produced goods.
Tapestry’s initiatives like Coach (Re)Loved—which restored 14,000 items in fiscal year 2024—and Coachtopia demonstrate the company’s commitment to circular fashion. With 95 percent of raw materials mapped and 100 percent renewable electricity across owned operations, Tapestry proves that luxury brands can prioritize profitability while championing environmental responsibility.
