Sustainable Fashion Takes Center Stage at Lakme Fashion Week

Lakme Fashion Week x FDCI celebrated a decade of Nexa presents The Spotlight with a groundbreaking showcase that seamlessly blended sustainable fashion, live performances, and artistic expression. Three visionary designers—Naushad Ali, SWGT by Shweta Gupta, and Til by Ankur Verma—transformed the runway into a contemporary community circle, each receiving their moment to shine with carefully curated collections.

Naushad Ali’s Continuum: Fashion in Motion

Naushad Ali’s collection “Continuum” projected clothing as living art, with models and performers choreographed to showcase garments in constant transformation. The designer’s philosophy centers on eliminating seasonal consumption cycles, refusing to participate in the “buy more, throw more” culture. By sitting among the audience during the showcase, Naushad created an intimate connection between designer and spectator, blending seamlessly into his own fashion narrative at the show’s conclusion.

SWGT and Til Champion Artisanal Craftsmanship

SWGT’s “Look Closer” collection celebrated Indian textiles and handwoven silks from West Bengal and Chanderi, highlighting intricate pintucks and embroideries often mistaken for prints. Shweta Gupta’s commitment to long-term partnerships with artisan clusters ensures consistent quality and ethical collaboration. Meanwhile, Til’s “Breathe” collection showcased Ankur Verma’s mastery of upcycling, featuring 70+ variations from just 16 looks, including a remarkable textile dollhouse constructed entirely from waste materials. Each designer demonstrated that sustainability isn’t merely a trend but a fundamental design philosophy, proving that conscious fashion can be both beautiful and responsible.
