Key Sentence:
- Even before Covid-19, some female entrepreneurs found it difficult to think long-term and strategically about the growth of their companies.
Unfortunately, time – especially for women with school-age children Women Business Owners has become a more valuable commodity during a pandemic. As entrepreneurs learn to run their businesses in the Covid-19 era, it is essential to refocus on future opportunities in a period of uncertainty.
“We feel out of control during the pandemic,” said Dori Clark, a Duke. And Columbia Universities professor, Women Business Owners strategic advisor, lecturer, and thought leader. “We can’t control public health, we can’t control government regulations. We can’t control what policies apply or where we can travel.”
With a bit of gradual change, even Clark believes we can. He is the author of the newsly published book The Long Game: How to Be a Long-Term Thinker in a Short-Term World. This book offers inspiring stories and practical tips on how to regain control.
Take control by giving directions.
It’s very stressful when things change every day, and you feel like you’re out of control. Long-term thinking is powerful because it allows you to realize. That even if you don’t control many things at another given point in time, you can determine the general direction. “The things we can do even the little things allow us to keep moving in the direction we want to be from time to time,” says Clark.
“There is power in small, deliberate steps taken over time.”
Give yourself grace. Don’t be afraid that you may not be as productive as you would like to be. There is an urgent situation. When social distancing is at its peak, you may spend more time on treatment. Now that things are back to normal, kids are back in school, and social distancing is easing, it’s an opportunity to spend more time thinking about your business.
