Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters denies canceling a show in Poland amid media reports
The rock band’s co-founder released a statement in which he called the Polish media “wrong” for claiming he was canceling his upcoming concert in April.
Roger Waters has denied reports that he has canceled his upcoming show in Poland as the Kraków city council prepares to declare him persona non grata.
Waters made headlines this month for his controversial stance on the Russo-Ukrainian war. Writing in a letter to Ukraine’s First Lady Olena Zelenska. Accusing “extreme nationalists” in Ukraine of “putting the country on this catastrophic path. Zelenska later took to Twitter to condemn Waters’ claims. Saying she should have raised the issue of peace with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Polish media recently report that April’s two-day run at the Tauron Arena in Kraków was canceled. An official at the venue is report to have said that “manager Roger Waters has decide to resign … without giving a reason.”
In a Facebook post on Saturday evening. Pink Floyd’s co-founder denied the reports and asked two Polish media outlets for their coverage.
“Your newspaper is wrong in their claim that neither I nor my management has canceled my upcoming concert in Krakow; we haven’t.” Waters said on a verified account that the cancellation “would be a sad loss for me as I was looking forward to it. That’s me sharing my message of love with the Polish people.”
He also summoned Kraków City Council Member ukasz Wantuch. Who publicly opposed the concert and even urged fans to boycott the show after Waters’ comments about the war.
Members of the Kraków city council have also gone so far as to draft a resolution declaring Waters persona non grata in Poland, to be elect this weekend, the news reports. “Given that Russia’s criminal attacks in Ukraine, as well as the increasing number of war crimes committed by Russian soldiers, are exposed, [the advisers] express their anger at the theses and statements of Mr. Roger Waters regarding the Russian invasion of Ukraine.’ the resolution read.
Confirming the decision in a statement, Waters said he had worked “to serve human rights” all his life and faced unfair punishment. He claimed that he had create “public efforts to encourage all participants in the catastrophic war in Ukraine. Particularly the US and Russian governments, to work towards a negotiated peace rather than escalating things to the bitter end.
