Taylor Swift talks about her best process.
At the Toronto International movie Festival on Friday, Taylor Swift, 32, met with TIFF CEO Cameron Bailey for a Q&A and screening of All Too Well: The Short Film 35mm.
In their conversation, the Lover singer discussed why “All Too Well” was the song he chose for a short film. Swift recalled that although she loved it, her team never recorded the music for a single when it was first released. Saying, “Nobody saw the potential in it except the fans who loved it.”
Looking back, Swift says this may have been a blessing in disguise.
“The song was challenging because it was about something very relevant to me at the time,” he said. “It will be hard for me to fulfil at this point.”
“There’s no way I can do a visual on this song at this point,” the singer added. “It took me ten years of flashbacks to figure out what I was going to do to tell a visual version of this story. And I’m so grateful I could do that with a crazy twist on all these different twists of fate. I couldn’t believe it. “
All Too Well: The Short movie was released in November 2021 and starred Dylan O’Brien from Teen Wolf and Sadie Sink from Stranger Things. (Cink, 20, attended the event.) For Swift, it’s always been about visually bringing her songs to life. “It’s always been part of the process because when I write a song. I immediately start thinking about how I want to perform it on stage,” he said. “If I made a song video, what would it look like?”
