Travis Scott surprises fans with his first festival appearance since the Astroworld tragedy
After ten people died at last year’s Astroworld Festival, Travis Scott took to the stage at Rolling Loud in Miami with his friend Future for this weekend’s surprise show.
Travis Scott is finally back on the festival circuit.
The Grammy nominee, 31, made a surprise appearance at the Future Saturday event at Rolling Loud in Miami – his first appearance at a music festival since last year’s Astroworld tragedy that killed ten concertgoers.
He joined Future, 38, towards the end of his set, and they performed their song “Hold That Heat” together before opening with Scott’s songs “Goosebumps” and “No Bystanders.” Scott then performed in front of a bustling crowd at Miami’s E11EVEN nightclub, where he previously returned to the stage in May.
A total of 10 people died in crowds during the tragedy at the Astroworld festival in November. Since then, the artist Utopia has offered to pay for the victims’ funerals, but several families have rejected the offer.
Scott is currently facing a class action lawsuit on behalf of nearly 2,800 other victims.
In March, Scott announced Project HEAL, a series of community-focused philanthropic initiatives. And said he was spending time alongside the launch to “mourn, reflect, and help heal my community.”
“Most importantly, I wanted to use my resources and platform to move forward for real change. Scott wrote on Instagram at the time. “This will be a lifetime trip for my family and me.
Scott paused his performance at The Day Party: Independence Day concert in Coney Island, Brooklyn. Earlier this month to ensure the safety of fans after several were seen climbing the lightweight structure. “Hey brother, brother, make sure you’re okay, brother. Can you hear me?” he said into the microphone as the crowd reentered and the show resumed.
A Scott representative told news at the time. “Travis is committed to doing his part to ensure the event is as safe like possible so fans can have fun and encourage fans to listen to safety requests and get off the lighting structure. In everyone.” I’m sure I could have enjoyed last night’s performance.”
