49ers Owner Jed York Arrested on Misdemeanor Charges in Ohio

San Francisco 49ers owner and CEO John “Jed” York was arrested Sunday in East Palestine, Ohio, on misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct and possessing what the state classifies as “criminal tools.” Court records reviewed by The Athletic show he was booked and released the same day on an own-recognizance bond.

Charges Were Later Amended

According to court filings, the disorderly conduct count was initially filed as engaging in prostitution before prosecutors amended it. A Cleveland-based attorney told reporters that Ohio’s criminal tools statute is intentionally broad, covering possession of virtually any item deemed designed or adapted for illegal use. York pleaded no contest to both charges on Monday in Columbiana County Municipal Court and received a $150 fine along with a two-day jail sentence.

As part of the resolution, a cell phone that had been confiscated was returned to York, while $160 in seized cash was forfeited to the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force.

Team and League Respond

The 49ers issued a brief statement calling the matter legal in nature and considering it resolved, declining to comment further. The NFL confirmed it will examine the incident under its personal conduct policy, though no timeline for that review has been announced.

The arrest comes amid a turbulent stretch for York personally: he filed for divorce from his wife, Danielle Belluomini York, in May. York became the 49ers’ principal owner in 2024 after buying additional shares from his mother, continuing the family’s long-standing control of the franchise.
