The Weeknd cancels LA concert after failing voice on stage
“I don’t need to stop the show, but I can’t give you the concert I need to give you right now,” the “Blinding Lights” singer told her audience as she took the stage on Saturday.
The Weeknd ended its Saturday night concert early at Los Angeles’ SoFi Stadium after losing his voice on stage. Despite the incident, the artist grabbed the microphone to deal with the situation and entertain the audience himself.
“I don’t know what just happened… but I lost my voice,” he explained, according to reports also videos of the event posted on social media. “It’s killing me, I don’t want to finish the show, but I can’t give the concert I want to give you right now.”
“I’ll make sure everyone is okay – you get your money back – I’ll be putting on a show for you guys soon,” he continued. “But I wanted to come out and apologize in person.”
“You know how much this is killing me; I’m sorry. Love you, thank you so much,” added The Weeknd.
The Canadian singer lost her voice midway through a performance of her single “Can’t Feel My Face” when she left the stage midway through the show before returning to apologize, the Los Angeles Times reported.
A Weeknd representative did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment. The “Blinding Lights” singer also shared a statement on Twitter to express her frustration over the situation.
“My voice was cut off during the first song, and I was devastated,” he wrote. “I felt it pass, and my heart sank. I apologize profusely to my fans here. I promise to make up for you with a new date.”
It’s unclear if his vocal problems will affect other dates on the After Hours Til Dawn tour, where Ticketmaster said he would play in Sweden and Toronto this month. The tour was previously postponed twice due to the pandemic.
