The man who died while attending The Weeknd’s concert in Philadelphia last Thursday has been identified.
Hugo Sanchez was sitting on the escalator rails when he lost his balance and fell about 40 feet, ABC6 police said. He was rushed from Lincoln Financial Field to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. He is 32 years old.
Authorities told the Philadelphia Inquirer that there was no suspicion of third-party wrongdoing, and the fall appeared to have been an accident. The News contacted the Philadelphia Police Department and Lincoln Treasury officials for comment but did not immediately receive a response.
“Hugo is a great man. He wants to travel. He’s a great friend,” Sanchez’s friend, Jamal Ransom, told ABC6.
Born on April 24, 1990, in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico, Sanchez is the son of Godofredo Sanchez and Francisca Marquez, his state obituary.
Apart from his parents, he survived brothers Alexis and Fidel Sanchez; his sister Karen Sanchez; and “a few aunts, uncles, and cousins; and lots of special friends.”
“Hugo is a positive person who enjoys travel, hiking, concerts, the beach, and time with family and friends,” says his obituary. “Hugo has an infectious smile and a big heart. He left a legacy of love for his family and life.
“This is a shocking tragedy and a huge loss for everyone fortunate enough to know Hugo. He is a rising star at our law firm,” Mark J. Rothenberg said in a NEWS statement. “Brilliant, ambitious, dedicated, and most importantly, loved and admired by all of our firm’s family, friends, colleagues, and clients.”
