Tesla Cuts Cybertruck Price, But the Clock Is Ticking

Tesla has slashed the starting price of its Cybertruck to $59,990, making it the company’s most affordable model to date. The offer, announced Thursday, applies to the dual-motor, all-wheel-drive variant — but there’s a catch. CEO Elon Musk confirmed via X that the promotional price is available for just 10 days, adding urgency to what is widely seen as a last-ditch effort to stimulate sluggish demand for the electric pickup.

A Steep Discount Across the Range

Beyond the entry-level model, Tesla also trimmed the price of its top-tier Cyberbeast by $15,000, bringing it down to $99,990 from $114,990. To offset the reduction, the company discontinued its premium “Luxe Package,” which had previously bundled Full Self-Driving capability and complimentary Supercharger access. The move signals a strategic shift away from high-margin add-ons and toward volume sales, as inventory continues to accumulate on lots across the country.

Recalls and Politics Erode Consumer Confidence

The Cybertruck’s rocky road to mainstream adoption has been well-documented. Multiple recalls and persistent quality control complaints have shadowed the vehicle since its launch, deterring prospective buyers and damaging the brand’s premium image. The situation has been compounded by the federal government’s elimination of the $7,500 EV tax credit, which has raised the effective cost for consumers, and by Musk’s increasingly polarizing political activity, which has alienated a segment of Tesla’s traditionally progressive customer base.

Whether the limited-time discount is enough to move the needle remains to be seen. At $59,990, the Cybertruck still sits well above many rivals in the electric pickup segment. For Tesla, the deeper question is whether discounting can rebuild consumer trust — or whether the brand damage runs too deep for a 10-day sale to fix.
