Tangle: Twitter and Pinterest Founders Launch New Social Media App
Twitter co-founder Biz Stone and Pinterest co-founder Evan Sharp have joined forces to create Tangle, a new social media application aimed at addressing what they describe as the “terrible devastation” caused by mainstream social networks. Their startup, West Co, has already raised $29 million since its 2023 founding, with Tangle quietly launching in November on an invite-only basis.
A Purposeful Alternative to Endless Scrolling
The distinctive app takes a fundamentally different approach than Facebook, Instagram, and X. Rather than featuring endless feeds designed for algorithmic engagement, Tangle asks users one simple question daily: “What’s your intention for today?” Users then share their responses with a small circle of trusted friends. The platform emphasizes intentional living and helping users “capture the reality of their days” while planning with purpose and discovering deeper life patterns.
Building From Experience
Despite creating the very systems they now seek to reform, Stone and Sharp bring significant credibility to their venture. Both understand social media’s inner workings intimately, having launched platforms that reshaped digital communication. Evan Sharp serves as CEO of West Co and previously emphasized their mission to address the human impact of technology developed over the past 15 years.
The app remains experimental, with Stone noting that creating tools for lifetime navigation is “difficult work, but I think it’s worth it.” Unlike competitors with billions of users, Tangle is still in early testing phases with no publicly disclosed user count, but the founders’ track record suggests this invite-only launch may signal something genuinely transformative in social media’s future.
