Born on May 30, 1955, in Bombay (now Mumbai), Paresh Rawal comes from a Gujarati family.
He attended Narsee Monjee College of Commerce & Economics in Mumbai.

In 1987, he married Swaroop Sampat, a former Miss India and actress. They have two sons, Aditya and Anirudh.

Rawal made his acting debut with the 1985 film “Arjun” in a supporting role and later appeared in the TV serial “Bante Bigadte.”
He gained recognition in the 1986 film “Naam” and appeared in numerous films throughout the 1980s and 1990s, often playing villainous roles.
Notable early roles include “Andaz Apna Apna” (1994) and “Hera Pheri” (2000), where he portrayed the iconic character Baburao Ganpatrao Apte.
His performance in “Hera Pheri” earned him the Filmfare Best Comedian Award.
Rawal continued to excel in comedy and intense supporting roles in films like “Aankhen” (2002), “OMG – Oh My God!” (2012), and “Sanju” (2018).
He has also been successful in Gujarati plays and television production.
Appointed as the chief of the National School of Drama in September 2020 by the President of India.

Rawal’s versatility as an actor and his ability to excel in both comedic and serious roles have earned him widespread acclaim.
He continues to be a prominent figure in Indian cinema, with upcoming projects including “Hera Pheri 3” and “The Storyteller,” where he will portray Satyajit Ray’s character Tarini Khuro.
