MrBeast Admits to Extreme 18-Hour Workdays in Quest for Empire

Jimmy Donaldson, known globally as MrBeast, has openly admitted that his grueling work schedule is far from “healthy.” Following the release of the docuseries How MrBeast Works 18 Hours Per Day, the 27-year-old creator took to X to confess that he “lives to work,” often planning his schedule down to the minute. With a record-breaking 476 million subscribers, Donaldson’s relentless pace is driven by a singular, massive ambition: transforming his company, Beast Industries, into an entertainment powerhouse capable of rivaling Disney.

The Cost of a $5 Billion Empire

Despite a net worth estimated at $2.6 billion, Donaldson claims to have “negative money” in his personal bank account, funneling every cent back into his high-budget productions. This “all-in” mentality is mirrored in his business operations. Beast Industries is currently in a massive growth phase, with CEO Jeff Housenbold announcing plans to increase headcount by 50%. The company, which already employs 450 people, is actively recruiting for dozens of roles in tech and marketing, prioritizing hands-on experience over formal degrees. Donaldson’s obsession with perfection even led him to hire a body double for thumbnail testing, ensuring he never wastes a second of his 15-to-18-hour days.

A Culture of Extreme Leadership

Donaldson is not alone in his rejection of traditional work-life balance; he joins a cadre of high-profile tech leaders like Elon Musk and Nvidia’s Jensen Huang who champion extreme work ethics. While Musk has famously slept on factory floors and Huang starts his day at 4 a.m. out of a “state of anxiety,” MrBeast’s approach is centered on creative dominance. However, this “hustle culture” remains polarizing. While Beast Industries continues to scale at an unprecedented rate, critics and other CEOs warn that such grueling schedules risk long-term burnout, even if they result in the most-watched videos in internet history.
