Mashreq Bank Names Xi Liang as Head of AI

Dubai-based Mashreq Bank has appointed Xi Liang as its new Head of Artificial Intelligence, marking a significant step in the financial institution’s digital transformation journey. The strategic hire positions Mashreq to accelerate AI initiatives across customer experience enhancement, operational efficiency, and innovation development in the competitive MENA banking landscape.

Proven AI Expertise Across Multiple Sectors

Xi Liang brings over 15 years of cross-industry experience, having held senior positions at Judo Bank, Endeavour Group, and McKinsey & Company. Her distinguished background includes AI research at IBM, where she earned four patents and contributed to high-impact journal publications. This diverse experience spans banking, retail, healthcare, and consulting sectors, providing comprehensive insight into AI implementation challenges and opportunities.

Her expertise centers on developing scalable, responsible AI systems that deliver measurable business outcomes. This aligns perfectly with Mashreq’s commitment to ethical technology adoption and customer-centric innovation.

Strategic Focus on Enterprise-Wide AI Integration

In her new role, Xi will oversee AI implementation across all business divisions, including generative AI applications, intelligent automation systems, and comprehensive enterprise AI adoption. Her mandate encompasses aligning AI strategies with business objectives while ensuring regulatory compliance and maintaining responsible innovation practices.

Mohamed Abdel Razek, Group Head of Transformation, Technology, and Information at Mashreq, praised the appointment, highlighting Xi’s “unparalleled experience in enterprise-grade AI and ethical AI design” as crucial for reinforcing the bank’s technology-forward position.

Xi holds a PhD in Engineering and Bachelor’s in Computer Science from the University of Melbourne, complemented by certifications in AI governance, cloud computing, and data science, establishing her credentials for leading Mashreq’s AI transformation.
