Instacart Pays Top Tech Roles Up to $380,000 in Base Salary
Instacart, the grocery delivery giant valued at $9.5 billion, is paying its corporate technology workforce highly competitive salaries, with some senior roles commanding base pay as high as $380,000, according to federal H-1B visa filings reviewed by Business Insider.
The company filed over 150 H-1B applications in the year ending September 30, 2025, offering a rare window into compensation at a company with roughly 3,000 corporate employees. These figures reflect base pay only and exclude stock grants and bonuses.
What the Numbers Look Like
Salaries vary widely by role. Data Scientists earn between $125,000 and $210,000, while Senior Data Scientists can take home up to $265,000. Senior Computer Vision and AI Engineers command $180,000 to $290,000, and Engineering Managers in software earn $220,000 to $290,000. At the top of the range, the Director of Engineering for Machine Learning earns between $320,000 and $380,000.
These figures stand apart from pay received by Instacart’s 600,000 gig workers, who average around $18.33 per hour according to ZipRecruiter, with earnings varying by order size, distance, and tips.
How Instacart Stacks Up Against Rivals
Instacart’s compensation is broadly in line with competitors DoorDash and Uber. For software engineers specifically, Instacart offered $165,000 to $215,000 — more competitive than Uber’s $98,516 to $195,300, and roughly comparable to DoorDash.
Despite growing competition from Amazon, Uber Eats, and DoorDash in the grocery delivery space, Instacart reported fourth-quarter revenue of $992 million, a 12% year-over-year increase. CEO Chris Rogers described competition concerns as “overblown,” expressing confidence in the company’s position. Instacart currently has around 170 open roles listed on its website.
