Protein Revolution: Fast-Food Chains Transform 2026 Menus
Major fast-food chains are launching a protein-powered offensive in 2026, transforming their menus to meet surging consumer demand for high-protein options. From Dunkin’ to Jack in the Box, the industry shift signals that protein has evolved from a niche fitness trend to a mainstream menu staple.
This week alone saw Dunkin’ introduce Protein Milk for coffees with 15 grams of protein, while Subway rolled out Protein Pockets boasting over 20 grams. Blaze Pizza launched its “Protein-zza” featuring cauliflower crust and double chicken, explicitly marketed as GLP-1-friendly.
The GLP-1 Connection
The momentum behind this trend stems largely from weight-loss medications like Ozempic and Zepbound, which encourage smaller, protein-forward meals. Chains have responded by capitalizing on this consumer behavior, recognizing that GLP-1 users represent a growing market segment seeking convenient, protein-rich options that align with their dietary needs.
Expansion Across Chains
Jack in the Box expanded its Protein Bowls nationwide, offering up to 35 grams per serving, while wellness-focused El Pollo Loco doubled chicken portions on salads to exceed 50 grams. Starbucks initiated the trend last fall with protein lattes, followed by Chipotle’s December launch of a high-protein menu explicitly targeting GLP-1 users.
This strategic pivot reflects broader industry recognition that health-conscious consumers are willing to prioritize nutritional value alongside convenience and taste. As protein-forward dieting continues gaining popularity, expect even more chains to redesign their offerings to capture this expanding market segment.
