Grace Jones, 74, Brings Her Icon Status to a New Wolford Campaign
On Friday, the brand unveiled its Spring 2023 campaign at an immersive installation in Milan.
Grace Jones, the legendary singer and fashion icon is returning to her fashion roots.
The former model-turned-musician is the new face of Wolford, which was reveal on Friday at an immersive installation in Milan.
Wolford’s collaboration with the 74-year-old icon “reaffirms Wolford’s proposition of iconic wardrobe staples,” according to a statement released before the label’s presentation at Milan Fashion Week. Wolford is best known for its high-end layering pieces, such as bodysuits and tights.
The 2023 campaign is “celebrating longevity and timeless style with a sharpen brand vision, focusing on the go-to wardrobe pieces that are timeless, ageless, and designe with longevity in mind,” according to the brand.
Working with Jones will give “new life to some of the brand’s most iconic pieces.”
Jones’ return to fashion comes after she spoke out about how difficult it would be to model in today’s fashion landscape several years ago.
In an interview with The Guardian, she was ask what she thought about fashion and modeling today. The musician who start her career as a model in Paris said, “I’m glad I’m not doing it now.
“When I modelled, I would normally be a model size 6, 8, but because my shoulders are wide, it’s difficult to make them fit into things,” she explained. “I can’t get into model sizes anymore because they’re so small.”
The music legend also stated that she couldn’t handle the constant travel required of today’s models.
“I’m content not to travel as much as I used to. Since 9/11, traveling has been a pain in the a$$, “Jones stated. “I enjoyed it when it was simple, like with Concorde [the high-speed airliner]. I like flying, but I’m not pat between the legs and ask for a selfie. You are unable to communicate with anyone in the airport.”
