Busy Phillips Spoke To Seth Rogen And James Franco Split Presenter Matt Wilstein.
Saying the makers of “Freaks and Geeks” tried to get it before the industry “protected .” But, as seen on The Daily Beast’s podcast “The Last Laugh,” the “Girls5Eva” actress also touched on the #MeToo movement: I don’t know.
Busy Phillips shared his thoughts on keeping Seth Rogen away from James Franco as he recently mulled over some of the less critical parts of his early Hollywood years. The Daily Beast The Last laughs. While discussing his current series, Peacock’s Girls5Eva, Phillips was invited to reflect on some of his early career experiences – particularly geeks and geeks.
While Phillips says he’s reconsidering some of the things that happened to him, he doesn’t see Freaks and Geeks the program or the people who worked on it – as a source of previous bad experiences. For the actress, “the news didn’t come from the house.” It’s more like the industry as a whole,” Philips told presenter Matt Wilstein.
The actress, creator Paul Feig, and executive producer Judd Apatow said she was safe from some of the nefarious elements in the industry at the time. That includes reviews, says Phillips, that have things like, “This isn’t Dawson Creek or WB; you won’t find a pretty face here” that dispels the thought that she’s not “weak or” traditionally pretty enough.
“I think Paul and Judd are trying in their way to protect us and Linda [Cardellini] from the many harmful messages that are sent to young women and teens on internet television programming,” Phillips said. “Because I remember Paul talking to us, ‘I don’t want you to think there’s a diet or anything like that.’ “This contrasts, Phillips said, with the cadaver shame that occurred while working at Dawson Creek.
“I mean, when I got to Dawson Creek, there was a lot of discussion about the birthmarks on my neck and face,” Phillips said. “And they tried to cover it up with makeup. It’s an instruction from the network. I think they found it offensive. My skin offended them. But it was so wild to me.”
Speaking of freaks and geeks, the conversation goes back to the reveal in Philip’s 2018 memoir, “This Will Only Hurt a Little,” which co-star James Franco knocked to the ground on set. At the start of his late-night show, Phillips told The Hollywood Reporter, “James and I have been talking about this for years. At some point, he apologized to me,” he said. I’m always aware of my expenses, so I feel like I shouldn’t complain, always come on time, and it’s not complicated.
