Giambattista Valli Buys Back His Brand From Artémis

Italian designer Giambattista Valli has taken full ownership of his eponymous fashion house from Artémis, the holding company of the Pinault family that controls Kering. The deal was announced on September 27, 2026. Financial terms were not disclosed.

In a statement, Artémis chairman and CEO François-Henri Pinault said the group was pleased to have backed such a singular and demanding creative vision, adding that a new chapter was opening for the venture. Valli thanked Artémis for its support over the years and said the agreement lets him regain control of the brand and pursue its growth with energy.

A Partnership Built Over Nearly a Decade

Artémis first invested in the label in 2017 and took a majority stake in 2021, later raising its holding to more than 90%. The brand said the collaboration helped build infrastructure, scale collections and expand its international presence. Valli operates two standalone stores, in Paris and Milan. Artémis does not disclose sales for individual brands, and it also fully controls Courrèges.

The announcement follows a turbulent stretch. In January, the house said it would skip its couture show scheduled for Paris Fashion Week on January 26, 2026, while it reviewed how its activities are organized to ensure long-term sustainability.

From Rome to the Paris Couture Calendar

Born in Rome, Valli began his career in Italy before moving to Paris, where he gained early haute couture experience at Emanuel Ungaro. He showed his first collection under his own name in March 2005. He started with ready-to-wear, moved into haute couture in 2011 and became a permanent member of the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture.

In July 2025, he held a presentation at his headquarters rather than a show for the FW25 couture season. That month he was also named Officer of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by French culture minister Rachida Dati. With his independence restored, attention now turns to how he will steer the maison’s next stage.
