Apple Races to Launch Smart Glasses, AI Earbuds, and a Wearable Pendant

Apple is making a bold push into the wearables market, accelerating development of three camera-equipped devices that signal a significant shift in the company’s hardware strategy. According to a Bloomberg report, the tech giant is racing to compete with rivals like Meta and OpenAI as the AI wearable space heats up rapidly.

Smart Glasses Set to Rival Meta

Leading the charge is a pair of AI-powered smart glasses, internally code-named N50. Featuring high-resolution cameras, the glasses are targeted for production as early as December, with a consumer release expected in 2027. The device will allow users to make calls, access Siri, and take contextual actions based on their surroundings — putting it in direct competition with Meta’s popular Ray-Ban smart glasses.

Camera-Equipped AirPods Are Coming Sooner

Perhaps more imminent is a new version of AirPods fitted with cameras, which could arrive as early as this year. Unlike traditional cameras, these are not designed to capture photos or video. Instead, they allow Siri to visually perceive the user’s environment, enabling more intelligent, context-aware assistance in real time.

Rounding out the trio is a clip-on pendant device that functions as an iPhone accessory. Described by some Apple employees as the “eyes and ears” of the iPhone, the concept draws comparisons to the ill-fated Humane AI Pin — though Apple appears to be taking a more accessory-first approach rather than positioning it as a standalone product. Together, these three devices suggest Apple is betting heavily on ambient AI hardware as the next major computing frontier.
