Ben Platt’s Met Gala Suit Sells for Half Price
A New York dermatologist recently made an extraordinary fashion discovery when he purchased actor Ben Platt’s 2023 Met Gala ensemble on luxury resale platform The RealReal. Angelo Landriscina acquired the custom Wiederhoeft suit for $3,108 after it was marked down 50% from its original listing price of $6,600.
The white cropped tuxedo jacket with black trim and matching pants, constructed from silk tulle, taffeta, chiffon, raffia, ostrich feathers, and metal strips, caught Landriscina’s attention while he was browsing for a Saint Laurent jacket. Initially hesitant about the price, he favorited the item and waited five months before making the purchase.
From Red Carpet to Resale Platform
Platt wore the striking ensemble to the 2023 Met Gala, where the theme honored Karl Lagerfeld’s legacy at Chanel. The actor described it as “a bit of Chanel tweed” with “a little bit of men’s wear, women’s wear combo.” After the event, Platt returned the suit to designer Jackson Wiederhoeft, who later listed it among 50 items in a February collaboration with The RealReal.
The Thrill of the Hunt
For Landriscina, the discovery represents the ultimate resale find. “I’ve been secondhand and vintage shopping for a long time, and I’ve definitely come across other unique things, but it’s never been that I came across somebody’s Met Gala look,” he shared in a TikTok post about his purchase.
This incident reflects a growing trend of celebrity fashion becoming accessible through resale platforms, making high-fashion pieces available to discerning shoppers willing to hunt for treasures.
