Red Lobster’s most notorious promotion is back. Two years after Endless Shrimp helped drive the seafood chain into bankruptcy, the company has relaunched the all-you-can-eat offering with a significantly restructured format designed to protect profitability while still drawing crowds.
What Went Wrong the First Time
When previous ownership made Endless Shrimp a continuous, year-round promotion in 2024, the consequences were severe. Kitchens buckled under the volume, with staff overwhelmed preparing shrimp while other orders went cold. Servers were reportedly reduced to acting as “shrimp police,” carefully monitoring plates before allowing refills. The financial strain contributed directly to the chain filing for bankruptcy.
How the New Version Works
Larry Konecny, who joined Red Lobster as COO in November 2024, spearheaded a rethought approach. The relaunched promotion, which began in April 2026, runs for just six to eight weeks rather than indefinitely. Pricing is tiered between $24.99 and $29.99, with five specific shrimp options available. The promotion is dine-in only, and customers begin with three dishes before being permitted to order up to two additional at a time — a structural change that naturally limits excess.
The early numbers suggest the strategy is working. Foot traffic at Red Lobster locations has climbed more than 18 percent since the promotion launched, according to data from Placer.ai. Konecny has described the economic outcomes as encouraging, though the company has yet to confirm whether Endless Shrimp will become a recurring seasonal fixture going forward.
