Alia Bhatt brought a contemporary edge to traditional Indian wear at the Ambani family’s Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations in Mumbai, stepping out in a custom House of Masaba sari paired with a structured, strapless corset blouse. Styled by Priyanka Kapadia, the look balanced heritage craft with a modern silhouette.
A Sari Steeped in Craftsmanship
The tissue sari featured intricate hand-embroidered zardozi work along its broad border. Its ice-blue fabric carried a subtle sheen, while muted gold embroidery offset the cool-toned drape. The corset blouse, however, stole the spotlight, detailed with gold bullion threadwork and zardozi embroidery tracing a sweetheart neckline that echoed the sari’s own detailing.
For jewellery, Bhatt chose oversized silver-toned chandbalis from Apala by Sumit, layered with stacked bangles from A Jewels by Anmol and a cocktail ring. Her hair was styled in loose, centre-parted waves by Priyanka Borkar, while Riviera Lynn kept the makeup understated with warm-toned eyes, a small black bindi and a nude lip.
Part of a Larger Style Pattern
This isn’t the first time Bhatt has experimented with unconventional blouses to refresh a familiar drape. In July, she wore a purple sari with a strapless corset to a wedding, followed soon after by a blue crushed-tissue sari paired with a keyhole cut-out blouse. At Cannes 2026, she made a similar statement in an ivory corset sari by Tarun Tahiliani.
Vogue India’s associate fashion editor Divya Balakrishnan noted the corset carries a nod to the Y2K butterfly top trend, suggesting the look can be recreated with an embellished butterfly-style blouse, a choker and playful bindis for a similar retro-modern effect.
Across these appearances, Bhatt continues to prove that the sari, one of India’s most timeless garments, still has room for reinvention.
