Osama Chabbi to Direct His First Fashion Documentary

Fashion commentator Osama Chabbi is stepping behind the camera to direct his first documentary, a film about his favorite designer. He shared the news in The Scoop, Vogue Business’s weekly interview series, published on October 23, 2026.

From Instagram Stories to the Director’s Chair

Born in France and based in Dubai since 2018, Chabbi worked at Farfetch, first styling Middle East campaigns and later in private client services. He built his following by posting fashion show reviews on Instagram. His on-camera interviews with Haider Ackermann and Kris Van Assche, which he filmed and produced himself, raised his profile further.

The documentary grew out of a plan for a commemorative interview marking the anniversary of the designer’s death, featuring two people important to that designer’s story. A colleague who handles his production told him that his hands-on approach to shots, framing and lighting made him a director. That encouraged him to attempt a longer format.

Filming begins in January, with a release planned for next year. The project is a partnership with a fashion-focused streaming platform that is due to launch soon, and it will be one of the platform’s originals. Chabbi has not named his subject, describing the designer only as “a little man with big ideas.” He says legacy is the film’s theme and hopes it will age well, like his interviews, and end up in exhibitions, museums and fashion schools.

Predictions and Perspectives

In the same conversation, Chabbi predicted that Chemena Kamali will move to Saint Laurent, and tipped Maximilian Davis or Nicolas Di Felice for Alaïa. He also backed the student protesters in France, calling their claims valid. On runway size inclusivity, he argued that fashion must first accept bigger bodies as glamorous before real change can happen.
