John Easterling remembers one of his first holidays with Olivia Newton-John on his late wife’s birthday
“Every day with Olivia is a magic touch,” the late husband of Grease’s icon wrote. As news confirmed that friends and family celebrated his life with a memorial service last week.
John Easterling recalled the seemingly magical time he spent with his late wife Olivia Newton-John on the superstar’s first posthumous birthday. Days after friends and family celebrated at a memorial service.
On Monday, Newton-John’s 74th birthday, Easterling took to his Instagram and shared a sweet story about the almost open boat ride the couple had over the holidays that coincided with one of the Grease star’s birthdays in their relationship.
“In light of our first anniversary together, I took Olivia on a week-long adventure to the Outer Islands in the Bahamas surrounded by beautiful. Serene and spectacular turquoise waters,” wrote Amazon Herb Company founder, 70, and found they were living in a house. They were secluded on an island with no roads nearby and had to travel everywhere by boat.
“It was private, beautiful, and we would take boats to uninhabited islands, their beaches and just explore—just the two of us.”
After an all-day visit to Great Guana Cay, the couple experienced a storm filled with strong. Gusty winds, cloudy skies, “biting” rain, and “choppy” gray water. “Olivia stood behind me and held on as I navigated this 23-foot-tall consulship,” he wrote. “The only instrument is a magnetic compass.”
“I had set my sights on Elbow Cay, but there was no visibility,” recalled Easterling. Who then “wondered if the currents and winds” had pushed his boat away from the Bahamas and toward Africa. “But as soon as the storm started, the wind came down, the rain stopped. The sun shone, and the sea turned that beautiful turquoise color again.”
He said they could immediately “see the Hopetown lighthouse on Elbow Cay” and knew they were “really on track.”
“The rainbow started on the left also crystallized all the way – from horizon to horizon. And then the dolphins started jumping, the bow of the boat taking us under the rainbow,” Easterling wrote. “Oliva looks at me like a superhero, and I know it’s mostly due to blind faith and stupid luck.”
He added, “When the dolphins took us across the beautiful water, under the rainbow to the lighthouse. We both saw supernatural fingerprints everywhere – and that’s how we live our lives.”
Easterling’s post concluded, “Every day with Olivia has a magical touch, and [a] every day with Olivia is a little supernatural. Happy birthday, honey – I love you!”
