Casey Wilson changed their mind on gluten after their son’s celiac diagnosis

Casey Wilson shares how her son’s diagnosis of celiac disease has affected her views on health and well-being.

While Casey Wilson talking to news on their Fed Up podcast, the actress explained. That her son Max’s diagnosis has changed his mind about gluten. And made him warier about things like the fad diet he’s tackling on his new show.

When asked if his 7-year-old son’s diagnosis had caused him to be more careful about what he puts in his body, Wilson said, “Absolutely.”

“I thought maybe I was a little guilty, like, ‘Oh, people have this gluten sensitivity. So I was standing very corrected and feeling terrible because my son was diagnosed with celiac disease, so he can’t eat gluten,” she explained.

“This world has opened up to me, and I’m trying not to be the mom that says, ‘Hello, kid…’ Nobody wants to be that annoying mom,” she says. “But at the same time, we eat gluten-free in our home. And I feel a lot better and don’t have that sensitivity.”

Still, Wilson admits that “after work hours,” she and her husband David Caspe “have to order our meals too sometimes.”

“I can’t lie,” he teases her. “I feel like I have so much cheat food. Have to eat well once a week. So, like, where’s my non-cheat food?’

“Life is short, and life is so hard. So I’m a little uncomfortable with being in control all the time.”

In 2019, Wilson wrote a personal essay for The New York Times. In which he looked back on Max’s journey to being diagnosed with celiac disease and revealed how the experience made him trust his maternal instincts more.

It wasn’t until Max broke his leg and then had a seizure in the car that Wilson arranged for a blood test on his son. Tests eventually confirmed that Max had celiac disease, an autoimmune, genetic condition in which the body is affected by eating gluten.
