Ye and Drake: a complex rivalry rekindled with mutual acknowledgments

Ye and Drake have had a shaky connection over the years.

Over the years, Ye (formerly Kanye West) and Drake have had a volatile relationship filled with moments of rivalry and mutual respect.

Their feud intensified in 2018 when Drake’s ghostwriting for Ye became a focal point. Things took a turn when Pusha T released “Infrared,” a track that reignited ghostwriting allegations against Drake.

In response, Drake dropped “Duppy Freestyle,” where he revealed that he had written for Ye in the past. The feud escalated when Pusha T released the scathing diss track “The Story of Adidon,” leading to a deep strain in Drake and Ye’s relationship.

Acknowledging Drake’s Contributions

Despite their turbulent history, Ye recently extended an olive branch to Drake. During a performance in China, Ye publicly thanked Drake for writing the hook for his song “Yikes,” a track from Ye’s 2018 Ye album.

“I wanna thank Drake for writing this chorus for me,” he said as the song played. This moment was further validated by footage of Drake recording a reference for the song, which surfaced in his 100 Gigs purge.

Previous Attempts at Reconciliation

This is not the first time he has tried to repair his relationship with Drake.

In August, while performing in South Korea, Ye dedicated a performance of Graduation’s “I Wonder” to Drake, marking yet another attempt to mend their relationship. “This one’s for Drake,” he said as the track began.

Mixed Signals in the Feud

However, just four months prior to this, Ye had taken a jab at Drake in his track “Like That,” where he criticized Drake’s music deals and success. The diss seemed to reignite the rivalry, adding another layer of complexity to their love-hate dynamic.

As their interactions continue to oscillate between rivalry and reconciliation, fans are left wondering where the two artists currently stand. For now, their history remains a mix of gratitude, competition, and unresolved tensions.
