An American businessman who exploded in space with Star Trek actor William Shatner died in a plane crash less than a month later.On Thursday, Glen de Vries, 49, was in a single-engine plane that crashed in a forest in New Jersey.
Another man on the flight, Thomas Fischer, 54, also died.
A technology entrepreneur, Mr. De Vries, joined Mr. Shatner on Amazon Founder Jeff Bezos’ New Shepard spacecraft. Due to the Federal Aviation Administration, the Cessna 172 crashed about 40 minutes before sunset in a wooded area of the state park near Lake Kema, which is investigating the crash.
On October 13, Mr. De Vries travels in the Blue Origin suborbital capsule with Mr. Shatner, the oldest man, to fly into space. Mr. Bezos tweeted that he was “heartbroken.” Mr. De Vries founded the medical research company Medidata Solutions in 1999. According to Mr. Vries’ profile published by Blue Origin before his space journey, it is considered the most widely used clinical research platform globally.
