Canadian pop star The Weeknd’s Blinding Lights is the all-time number one song on the Billboard charts. According to Billboard, Blinding Lights has been in the top 100 for 90 weeks. The song replaced Chubby Checker’s 1960s hit, The Twist, and took first place.
The Billboard 100 has rated the best songs based on radio plays, sales, and streaming over the past 63 years. The Weeknd, real name Abel Tesfaye, released Blinding Lights in November 2019. As of September 2021, it has been streamed more than 2.5 billion times on Spotify.
TikTok’s dance challenge fueled its popularity during the pandemic and The Weeknd’s appearance during the 2021 Super Bowl halftime show.
Ironically, “The Twist” Chubby Checkers is also a dance craze but is now in second place.
