Billionaire investor Vinod Khosla is looking for a new right-hand person. The 71-year-old Silicon Valley venture capitalist announced on X that he is accepting applications for his next chief of staff, a post that drew nearly two million views.
The listing asks for a three-year commitment and in-person work in Menlo Park, California. The successful candidate must work from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and stay available around the clock, including nights and weekends when needed.
What Khosla Wants in a Candidate
Khosla said applicants need not know every field he works in. What matters, he wrote, is how quickly they learn, the questions they ask and whether they can think from first principles. The chief of staff will act as a thought partner and see how he evaluates opportunities and builds conviction.
Career Payoff and Pay
The listing notes that Khosla’s former chiefs of staff have gone on to found companies and launch investment firms. No salary was published, but Indeed data shows the median advertised pay for chiefs of staff is $175,000 in the San Francisco Bay Area and about $152,000 nationwide. Indeed also reported that September postings for the role were nearly 90% higher than before the pandemic.
Forbes estimates Khosla’s net worth at $11.3 billion.
His View on Talent and AI
In an earlier interview with Entrepreneur, Khosla said he values learning rate above all in founders. He admitted to arguing positions he doesn’t hold to see whether people push back or simply agree. He also predicted AI could handle 80% of all jobs by 2030, while opening the door to millions of new entrepreneurs.
