Swift visualizes a ballad produced by Aaron Dessner in March’s Where the Crawdads Sing trailer.
The wait for Taylor Swift’s new single is finally over!
On Friday, Swift released a captivating ballad titled “Carolina” from the upcoming film Where the Crawdads Sing – three months after the song was visualized in the trailer for the film starring Daisy Edgar-Jones.
Written entirely by Swift, 32, and produced by regular collaborator Aaron Dessner, “Carolina” features the chilling vocals of the 11-time Grammy winner. As she sings about how she’s meandering through different places without being seen, reminiscent of a movie.
“In the fog, in the clouds / No, you don’t see me here,” Swift sings at a slower tempo over the cut audio track. “You’re having a party; I’ll make it count / Carolina knows. Based on the 2018 bestselling book by Delia Owens, Where the Crawdads Sing follows Kaya (Edgar-Jones, 23), who, as a young girl, is abandoned by her family and lives in the swamps of North Carolina. She learns to take care of herself by refusing to go to school and instead learns about nature herself. Taking reading lessons from a local boy who becomes her first love. Kya’s deep understanding of the environment she grew up in helped her become the bestselling author of Natural Manach.
While Kya behaves normally, she falls in love with the town’s golden boy (Harris Dickinson). But their romance turns sour when he is accused of murdering her and put on trial for her murder.
“Being exiled is one thing; being chased is another,” Kaya says in a voiceover near the center of the trailer, which was released in March.
After the trailer was released, Swift celebrated her new music in the film on Instagram. Posting the trailer and revealing that she was “completely lost” in the book when she “read it years ago.”
“As soon like I heard there was a movie collaborating with the amazing @daisyedgarjones also produced by the brilliant @reesewitherspoon, I knew I nedded to be a part of it musically,” he continued. “I wrote the song ‘Carolina’ myself and asked my friend @aarondessner to produce it. I wanted to create something interesting and subtle that fits into this interesting story.”
