Shweta Mohan, born on November 19, 1985, into a Malayali family in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, is a prominent Indian playback singer. She is the daughter of Krishna Mohan and renowned playback singer Sujatha Mohan. Shweta completed her schooling at Good Shepherd Convent, Chennai, and graduated from Stella Maris College, Chennai. She is married to Ashwin Shashi, her longtime friend, and the couple has a daughter named Sreshta Ashwin, born in 2017.
Career
Shweta’s journey in music began at a young age when she started training in Carnatic music at the age of nine. As a child artist, she recorded for the chorus in songs like “Kuchi Kuchi Rakkamma” from “Bombay” and “Accham Accham Illai” from “Indira,” composed by the legendary A. R. Rahman.
Throughout her career, Shweta has collaborated with renowned music directors such as Ilayaraja, A. R. Rahman, Vidyasagar, M M Keeravani, M. Jayachandran, and many more. She has established herself as a leading playback singer in South Indian cinema, lending her voice to over 800 songs and albums in languages including Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, and Kannada. Shweta’s versatility and melodious voice have earned her widespread acclaim in the music industry.
Currently, Shweta is continuing her training in Carnatic classical vocal under the guidance of Binni Krishnakumar, who is also a playback singer.
