Kraft Heinz is giving Philadelphia cream cheese a major flavor makeover, launching three new varieties as part of a wider effort to rebuild growth across its portfolio. The lineup includes Mike’s Hot Honey whipped cream cheese, salted caramel, and a seasonal cranberry orange, marking the first stage of a far more aggressive innovation strategy for the brand.
Exclusive Launches and Limited-Time Flavors
The Mike’s Hot Honey flavor will be sold exclusively at Walmart until it expands to other retailers in January, while the cranberry orange variety will be available for a limited time only. The mix of exclusive and limited-run releases gives shoppers a reason to try each flavor sooner rather than later.
Historically, Philadelphia introduced just one or two new flavors a year. That pace is set to change, with 10 new varieties planned over the next two years, according to CNBC. Kraft Heinz expects spending on the brand to climb 63% this year compared with 2025, and Jerome Drolet, the company’s president of taste elevation, says investment in new flavors alone has quadrupled.
Part of a $700 Million Turnaround
The flavor push is part of a $700 million investment being led by CEO Steve Cahillane across Kraft Heinz’s portfolio, including Oscar Mayer and Heinz. The spending follows the company’s decision earlier this year to reverse a planned breakup. Philadelphia is among the larger bets in that plan, and with roughly 62% of the U.S. cream cheese market, its performance largely determines how far the entire category can grow.
Beyond new flavors, Drolet wants consumers to see cream cheese as more than a bagel spread, pointing to uses such as dips and pasta sauces. The company plans to lean on TikTok creators and recipe sites to make that case.
Whether the expanded lineup translates into lasting growth remains to be seen, but the scale of the commitment shows how central Philadelphia is to Kraft Heinz’s turnaround plans.
