‘I Was Not Prepared for That “I was a Child,” the Paris Hilton star said of using her platform to advocate for issues such as reproductive rights.
For the first time, Paris Hilton is speaking out about her abortion.
While discussing the importance of using her platform to support reproductive rights, Hilton, 42. Paris Hilton opened up about her decision to terminate a pregnancy she “was not ready for” in her early twenties.
“This was also something I didn’t want to talk about because there was so much shame around it,” Hilton explained in a recent Glamour UK interview. “I was a kid, and I wasn’t prepared.”
Following the Supreme Court’s conclusion to overturn Roe v. Wade and the constitutional right to abortion last June, she felt compelled to use her celebrity to speak out.
“I believe it is significant,” she told the outlet. “There’s just so much politics and everything, but it’s a woman’s body… Why should a law be based on that? It’s your body, your decision, and I truly believe that.
“It’s perplexing to me that they’re making laws about what you do with your reproductive health. Because if it were the other way around with the guys, it wouldn’t be this way at all,” Hilton added.
Hilton became a mother this year, with husband Carter Reum announcing the birth of their first child via surrogate last month. They later revealed that they had named their son Phoenix Barron.
“Being a mother has always been my dream, and I’m so glad Carter and I found each other,” the new mom told the news. “We are overjoyed to begin our family together, and our hearts overflow with love for our baby boy.”
