Namma Yatri, an open-source auto-hailing app, has expanded its services to Chennai through a partnership with the government-backed Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC).
Expansion and Presence:
- Namma Yatri recently launched in Delhi and already operates in Bengaluru, Mysuru, Tumakuru, Kochi, and Kolkata.
- Aiming to onboard over 1 lakh drivers in Chennai within the next six months, with 10,000 drivers already registered.

- In contrast to commission-based models like Ola and Uber, Namma Yatri operates on a zero-commission model.
- Focused on empowering drivers with higher earnings and autonomy.
Localization and Customization:
- Customized the driver app in Tamil to cater specifically to the local demographic.
- Enhancing the user booking experience for prominent Chennai locations, including Valluvar Kottam, Arignar Anna Zoological Park, Birla Planetarium, etc.
Future Expansion Plans:
- Preparing for a launch in Hyderabad.
- Initiatives like ‘Purple Rides’ introduced for customers with disabilities.
Current Platform Statistics:
- Namma Yatri currently has 1.8 lakh drivers and more than 45 lakh riders on its platform.
Unique Features and Approach:
- The platform’s zero-commission model has been well-received, enabling drivers to earn over Rs 360 crore without any commission.
