“This is very important to me and it keeps me grounded,” says Luann de Lesseps of maintaining a healthy lifestyle on her journey to sobriety.

Luann de Lesseps enjoys the health benefits of her serenity.

The 57-year-old Real Housewives of New York star explained how her healthier lifestyle has helped her “lose weight” while talking about her sobriety and her non-alcoholic brand Fosé Rosé on Jeff Lewis Live SiriusXM on Thursday.

“It was the birth of COVID for me and I didn’t drink with my daughter [Victoria de Lesseps] – neither did my daughter,” said the Countess. “It just became a much better way of life for me. I’m happier, I’m healthier, I’m losing weight.” She credits her healthy lifestyle with helping her stay sober by taking a “holistic approach” that includes healthy eating, fitness, meditation and yoga. “This is very important to me and keeps me grounded,” adds De Lesseps.

De Lessep’s relationship with sobriety began when he voluntarily entered an alcohol treatment center in December 2017. A source told PEOPLE in March that De Lesseps “had worked really hard to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

But he made a mistake and fell off the train.”

The statement came after he had a “drunk” moment and performed at The Townhouse piano bar in Manhattan, where he said in a statement that he “made a mistake and fell off the train.”

The insider added that De Lesseps was “using this experience as a valuable lesson” for the future. “He will take steps to make sure it doesn’t happen again,” the source added.

De Lesseps previously told PEOPLE that he developed his mocktail brand, Fosé Rosé, out of a need for non-alcoholic beverage options. “It was out of my own need to drink with my daughter because we don’t drink,” she said in November.

“We were looking for something during the summer during COVID, lots of people drinking a lot, which is good, cheers to you,” continued De Lesseps. “But I couldn’t find anything I really wanted to drink that didn’t contain a lot of calories. We weren’t even dating at the time, but [usually] you’re at the mercy of the non-alcoholic guy at the bar. And it’s usually full of sugar. You don’t know what you’re getting.”
