Howie Mandel reveals his mental health struggles after contracting COVID-19 after the Kids’ Choice Awards.
For Howie Mandel, dealing with COVID-19 has had a more significant impact on his mental health than physical health.
In an interview with TMZ Live on Wednesday, the 66-year-old America’s Got Talent judge revealed her challenges after contracting COVID-19 at the Kids’ Choice Awards and said she was crazy during quarantine.
“I was in prison for ten days. “I was worried and felt aggravated, so my symptoms weren’t that bad,” he said at the exit. “But… the mental pain of being locked up in a room for ten days without approaching anyone… I’ve gone crazy.”
“I still feel like I’m recovering from this madness. And I’m not kidding. I’m very depressed, very neurotic,” Mandel continued. “The only panacea for my physical and mental health is a distraction. Mandel said that although he and AGT won the Kids’ Choice Awards, he felt “lost” by falling ill after the event after being very careful not to catch COVID for the past two years.
She found that because she was actively involved in therapy, she could open up about her mental health.
“I was in therapy, on medication, and doing things. But there was – and I think there is still – a stigma around mental health over the years,” says Mandel.
“I’ve learned that the first savior to throw yourself at is the ability to talk about it. It’s kind of healing to talk about,” he added. “And it’s great to be outdoors!” Last summer, Mandel spoke to PEOPLE about living with severe anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder for most of his life.
“I was living a nightmare,” says Mandel, who first started showing symptoms of his OCD as a child — repetitive and obsessive thoughts and fixations often caused by his paralyzing fear of germs.
“I’m trying to anchor myself. I have a beautiful family, and I love what I do. But at the same time, I can fall into a dark depression that I can’t get rid of,” he told news in July 2021.
Married to his wife Terry since 1980, Mandel, father of sons Alex, 32, and daughters Riley, 30, and Jackie, 38 (who also suffers from anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder), said the pandemic was of particular concern to him. Health.
“There is no awakening moment in my life where ‘we can die’ does not enter my soul,” he said. “But the solace I’ll take is that everyone around me is okay. It’s nice to get along well. But [during the pandemic], the whole world is wrong. And that’s hell.”
