BZZR: Sports’ Answer to Twitter, Built for Fans and Athletes

A former X executive is launching BZZR, a sports-only social media platform designed to solve the fragmentation and toxicity plaguing sports communities online. CEO Brett Weitz and founder Jeff Bookout created the platform after recognizing that athletes avoid social media due to harassment and hateful comments, while fans struggle to find sports content across multiple platforms.

Creating a Safer Digital Stadium

Unlike mainstream social networks flooded with political content and bots, BZZR gives athletes complete control over their presence. Users can enable comments, disable them entirely, or keep them visible only to themselves. The platform addresses a critical gap: athletes shouldn’t face death threats for missing a kick or making a mistake during a game.

AI-Powered Sports Discovery

The platform’s proprietary Sports Graph technology indexes over 145,000 podcasts and 30,000 long-form videos, automatically categorizing and personalizing content for each user. Weitz describes it as “basically Google for sports,” enabling conversational search where fans can ask questions like “Who’s been talking about Joe Schmo this week?” rather than navigating multiple platforms.

BZZR operates on an “always-on” model, combining live streams with podcasts, athlete content, and team hubs to maintain engagement year-round. This addresses sports’ longstanding challenge: keeping fans engaged between games and during the offseason. The platform intentionally excludes integrated gambling, though it allows sportsbooks to advertise.

By creating a centralized destination free from harassment and political noise, BZZR aims to recreate the in-arena atmosphere online—a community-focused space where sports truly takes center stage.
