Open About Aging in Her New Memoir

Shields, who has long been open about the realities of aging, shares her thoughts in her new memoir, Brooke Shields Is Not Allowed to Get Old, released in January. In one passage, she humorously recalls discovering her first wrinkle during a photoshoot.

After noticing what she thought was “dust” on the lens, the photographer gently informed her that it was actually a wrinkle. “His response was something to the effect of a pitying ‘Awww, you’re cute,’” she wrote.

Despite the shock of aging on camera, Shields reflects with honesty:

“I look back sometimes and feel like I’ve done something wrong because I no longer have the body or the face that I used to have. And yet, if I did anything drastic to hold on to my looks… I’d be judged or chastised for that, too.”

She added, “Do I sometimes wish that all my bits had remained higher and perkier? Or that I had the same skin that appeared on the cover of Life magazine in 1983? Of course I do!”
