Earlier this month, Beanie Feldstein announced that she would play her final performance as Fanny Brice on July 31 before Lea Michele joins the Broadway production in September.
Benny Feldstein announced Friday that he has tonsillitis.
The 29-year-old Golden Globe nominee took to Instagram to share that she missed a Funny Girl appearance on Broadway this weekend after receiving news of her early departure from the show.
“Hello everyone, just logged in. What have I missed? What happened?” Feldstein introduced the clip by referring to the chatter surrounding her earlier-than-expected departure and the selection of Lea Michele as Fanny Bryce.
I’ll start. “I just got back from an ear, nose, and throat doctor who told me I had tonsillitis, which is very contagious. And he couldn’t let me go on stage again this weekend until I had enough antibiotics to cure it. Infectious.
I can’t wait to do my last two weeks. You have to laugh at some point. When it rains, pour it on your old friend Bean,” Feldstein added. The actress had previously had to miss several shows, including when she tested positive for COVID-19 last month, in which her deputy Julie Benko stepped in.
After Feldstein announced last year that she was leading in the first Broadway revival of Funny Girl since the original premiered in 1964. She made her debut in the role (which was created by Barbra Streisand) in March.
The long-awaited production premiered in April but received mixed responses and only one nomination at the 75th Tony Awards.
Producers announced that Feldstein and co-star Jane Lynch would leave the show on September 25.
Despite rumors that Feldstein surprised the production team when he announced his new departure date via his social media. Funny Girl producers and actress representatives told NEWS on Wednesday that exit plans had been amicably agreed upon.
