Florida Governor Ron DeSantis says he ‘won’t order COVID vaccine for young children

Healthcare Florida Governor providers and pediatricians should obtain COVID vaccines for young children as Florida remains the only state in the United States that refuses to order doses for public health services.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is adamant in his decision not to order COVID vaccines for children under the age of 5.

“We’re not going to have a program where we’re trying to target 6-month-old babies with mRNA,” DeSantis said at Monday’s news conference. “We haven’t ordered it yet. So we’re not going to order it.”

Florida was the only one state not to pre-order a children’s COVID vaccine six months. Before the Food ALSO Drug Administration approved it last week. According to DeSantis, there is no evidence that healthy children must be vaccinated.

“[Joseph] Ledepo [Chief Surgeon in Florida], our Department of Health, looked into it. There is no proven benefit to having a baby with mRNA, so our recommendation is against it,” adds DeSantis. People can make their judgments. Last Wednesday, an FDA committee voted unanimously to allow Moderna and Pfizer/BioNTech to be used in children. Under 5 to 6 months of age. A some days later, the Centers for Disease Control also Prevention also signed off on a vaccine against COVID for that age group.

After the vote, many healthcare providers across the country will receive the available dose as early as June 21. However, because DeSantis has not ordered any vaccines for the state. Florida health care providers, including pediatricians, can expect doses to arrive days or weeks later from other states.

On Friday, DeSantis agreed to allow healthcare providers and pediatricians to order their vaccine supply, the White House said.

We are heartened that following repeated failures by Governor DeSantis to order vaccines for COVID-19. Even after every other state has called. Florida is now allowing healthcare providers to collect COVID-19 for our best young children. Press from White House Secretary Carine Jean-Pierre said, “We believe it’s essential to give parents everywhere the option to vaccinate their children and talk to their pediatrician or healthcare provider.
