Brian Cox is a clothing designer on a mission.
The Perry High School junior recently started a company called BC Motivational Apparel. His clothing options include short and long-sleeve T-shirts, hoodies, and jogging pants with the company logo.
The shirts and hoodies also include various words, phrases, and slogans.
Brian hopes that the inscriptions will resonate with buyers or potential customers and help them reach their full potential. Some of BC’s tees and hoodies are also embellished with messages encouraging people to persevere in pursuing their dreams, even when others are skeptical.
“There will always be people who doubt you. But you can use that as fuel to prove them wrong, do something different, and grow,” Brian said.
Brian started the business about three months ago as part of the UDesign It class. He’s taking this semester at Perry High School. Students in UDesign must develop a type of question to answer or a problem to solve as part of a semester-long project.
According to their teacher, Rachele Mielke, students get to design the class they are taking. Brian has a workstation in the classroom that includes a computer and a Cricut automated cutting machine. He employs these tools to design and then cut the heat-transfer vinyl designs on BC Motivational Apparel.
Brian then takes the designs to the school Media Center and uses a heat press to transfer them onto clothing to create a finished product.
Brian promotes BC Motivational Apparel on Instagram and Facebook by handing out order forms to classmates and putting more of those sheets in the Perry High School Media Center.
He also successfully got the clothing displayed and sold at the Snap Fitness gym. Located at 6581 North Ridge Road in Madison Township. In addition, Brian’s clothing line recently released a new variety of designs that appear on its clothing as part of a sales campaign dubbed the “BC Revenge Tour.”
“It’s to prove to everyone who has doubted you (they’re) wrong and make them a believer and keep your head high and be a leader,” he explained.
